Natural Light to Your Home

3 Clever Ways to Add

It’s only natural (pun intended) that light is something we crave in our homes.

We all wish the world was made of nothing but south-facing homes, but sometimes the updated kitchen wins out over floor-to-ceiling windows. Natural light improves sleep, physical activity and quality of life, so it’s only natural (pun intended) that it’s something we crave in our homes. Here are 5 ways to fake natural light in your home.

1. Add Smart Bulbs – With products like the Philips Hue White Ambiance Starter Kit, you can adjust the lighting to simulate a warm candle light hue or even natural daylight. These smart bulbs can be managed by a wireless dimming switch or on your mobile device. You can even set a timer via the Philips Hue app so that you switch the ambiance from daylight to candlelight after the sun sets.

2. Position Mirrors Correctly – Not only are mirrors a great way to make a room feel bigger, they also reflect light and brighten up any space. Position a mirror on a wall facing a window, or one at least perpendicular to reflect sunlight back into the nooks and crannies of any room.

3. Change to doors with windows – While adding windows to your home can require permits and a contractor, swapping out a solid wood door to one that has some glass elements in it can really brighten up your entry space. If you’re concerned about privacy, consider selecting frosted glass or adding a retractable window treatment.
