In limited web research, I’ve gleaned that on average, we’re seated for an astonishing 7.7 hours per day. Those almost 480 daily seated minutes are mostly spent at our desks as we type away diligently, in our cars as we sit in traffic, and on our couches as we binge watch our “shows” – because you know, it’s the golden age of television…we have a duty to watch these things.
Today I boldly proclaim that it is summer and if you have to sit, you might as well do it outside! That episode of Master of None can wait, or you can just kick back in a chair by the pool and watch it there. Tell your boss, “I think I’m going to work from home today…outside.”

I would “work” from home every day if I could do it from this outdoor patio area. This peaceful hideaway took 7 whole years to complete, and it looks like it too. While being surrounded by the ocean, waterfalls, koi ponds, stone walkways, and bamboo groves might make it tough to get much work done, I couldn’t think of a more inspiring place to immerse myself in the joys of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
As the song from American treasure Will Smith goes, “Welcome to Miami, Bienvenido a Miami”. Who is the coolest rock ‘n roll star/under appreciated actor of the last 25 years or so? Josh Groban? No. Jon Bon Jovi? Close, but no. The correct answer is Lenny Kravitz! What does Lenny Kravitz have to do with this Mediterranean dream home? It used to be his. I can only imagine how many ultra cool parties were hosted right in this home’s rock star worthy covered outdoor seating area.
This nearly century old mansion is reminiscent of a fine Manhattan Brownstone, except it has space – and a whole lot of it. While the inside is nothing short of exceptional, the outdoor seating area is perfect – especially during the summer. Why stay inside a historic and perfectly designed 11,000 square foot residence when you can sit outside of it, and enjoy unobstructed views of Lake Union, Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound.
